The Smell of Summer: Lemongrass Soap

The Smell of Summer: Lemongrass Soap

A key component of the Pipit & Finch brand is minimalism. I strongly believe in the power and beauty of simplicity. In such a busy and hectic world, with so many things constantly vying for our attention, it’s often the most well-designed, understated products that really provide us with what we need. I particularly appreciate simplicity in summer, a season that can be somewhat overwhelming. With the new blooms of gorgeous flowers popping up, an influx of summer plans (lake days at Tahoe!), baseball games, and late nights by bonfires, summer brings with it a lot of sensations competing for our attention.

It’s because of this that I think our lemongrass soap bar is perfect for long and hot summer days. Above all, this soap is bright! It smells, like the name suggests, lemony and fresh. For me, the smell and scent of lemons always invokes the vibrancy of summer and the refreshing lemonade that is best enjoyed during this season. The citrusy scent of the bar is balanced out by the blend of essential oils discussed below, which were carefully selected by yours truly to create a soap that will get you excited to hop in the shower. The invigorating – yet calming – smell of this bar will instantly lift your mood, and prepare you for taking on these hot summer days.

Keep reading to learn more about the ingredients in, and see a review for, this bar! For those of you short on time, there's a TLDR at the end. Thanks as always for reading my blog! I hope you gather some new insight into the sunniest of my soaps.

Lemongrass Soap Bar Ingredients

Lemongrass Essential Oil—fresh, lemony, grassy aroma; may relieve stress and anxiety; purifying properties

The namesake and main star of this bar, lemongrass, is a plant native to Australia, Asia, Africa, and various other tropical islands. The plant itself has a wide array of uses, having been used for perfumes, medicinal purposes, as well as in food and tea. When ingested as a tea, lemongrass has anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and even pain relieving benefits. For our purposes though, the distillation of this wonderful plant into an essential oil is what I’m going to focus on. The essential oil of lemongrass can be put directly on your skin, as well as inhaled, to calm muscle pain and headaches. It can relieve swelling and pain, and even stop some bacteria from growing.

As you might guess from the name, lemongrass essential oil has a strong lemon smell. This, along with its more grassy notes, produces a relaxing and calming effect that conjures up images of a family backyard barbecue on the fourth of July. A perfect compliment to the brightness of summer days, the scent of this bar will invigorate and refresh you!

Lavender Essential Oil—floral, fresh scent; promotes relaxation

Oh lavender… I won’t go too in depth into the properties of this universal and magical essential oil, because I’m sure you’re already familiar. And to know lavender is to love her! I often add this essential oil into the scent blend of my soaps, because its relaxing effect is unbeatable. The subtle floral scent balances out the brightness of the lemongrass in this bar, and instantly promotes a feeling of calm.

Aside from making this soap bar smell like heaven, lavender essential oil also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, and can be helpful for nausea and cramps

Vetiver Essential Oil—earthy, woody, fresh/green aroma; promotes skin cell regeneration; anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties

Vetiver essential oil completes the great trifecta of scents in this bar. This essential oil boasts a host of medicinal benefits, from improvement of circulation problems, to stomach pain, to nervousness. The earthy smell of this oil lends the perfect grounding note to the Lemongrass bar, and adds an additional calming element, while also boosting how fresh the bar (and you!) smells.

The Base

While the amazing essential oil combination is unique to this bar, our soap base is always made of the same ingredients! Consisting only of saponified olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and shea butter, Pipit & Finch soaps will leave you with the softest and healthiest skin possible -- free from weird additives or chemicals!

Five stars!

I just want to take a quick moment to shout out my awesome customers -- especially those who write reviews! It means more to me than I can say that you all appreciate the product that I put so much time, effort, and love into. Aside from providing me with some much appreciated feedback, they also give me something to brag about in my blog posts! Reese wrote the following review for the Lemongrass bar, which reaffirms that this soap is summer wrapped up in a package. Thank you Reese!

The smell of this soap brings me joy, period. Each night when I take a bath, I lather it up, bring my hands to my face, and take a very deep breath in. On darker winter days, its fresh, invigorating scent wards off the blues. I also love that it doesn't smell "fake" or overly perfumed. It's the tiniest bit of happiness in my day and hands down my favorite Pipit & Finch soap.

TLDR

Our lemongrass soap bar is the perfect compliment to long days and hot nights. The bright citrusy scent of lemongrass -- tempered by the calming floral lavender and woodsy grounding vetiver -- is refreshing and invigorating. It is simple and fresh, and smells so good. If you ever feel like holding a little sunshine in your hands (or lathering up with it in the shower), I hope you’ll give our lemongrass soap bar a go!
