Picking the right ingredients for a new bar of soap is a creative process. A lot of thought goes into ensuring that I find the healthiest and most natural ingredients that will leave you with soft and clean skin.

The base of Pipit & Finch soaps is consistent; each bar is made of simple and clean saponified olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, and shea butter. Nothing beats these tried and true ingredients when it comes to cleaning and moisturizing your skin.

The Ingredient Run-Down

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood essential oil boasts an abundance of beneficial properties. These include the reduction of stubborn acne and calming of anxiety. Not only does Cedarwood provide stress relief, but due to its relaxing qualities it can even help improve sleep and lengthen sleeping time! Cedarwood is also very effective in calming and reducing inflammation, and has antibacterial properties. This essential oil can be derived from a variety of plants, and has been used for thousands of years. The woody, long-lasting scent of Cedarwood produces a calming effect, leaving you feeling as invigorated and relaxed as a beautiful day at Lake Tahoe would.

Vetiver Essential Oil

The other main star of this soap – vetiver – is a plant originating in tropical Asia. The oil from this plant is commonly used for medicinal purposes; it treats everything from circulation problems, to stomach pain, to nervousness. The oil from the root of this plant has also been used for its olfactory benefits since ancient times, and it’s no surprise why. Sometimes referred to as the “oil of tranquility”, vetiver will leave you feeling calm and grounded. Like Cedarwood, Vetiver is known for the anti-inflammatory effect it can have on your skin, as well as its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. This ingredient will keep you clean, calm, and happy. Its characteristic scent is fresh, green, and woodsy – certain to have a relaxing effect on you.

Lavender, Bergamot, and Rosemary

Alongside the essential oils of Cedarwood and Vetiver, Lavender and Bergamot essential oils promote relaxation and also help to reduce inflammation. I picked these oils to fully round out the scent of the bar, and because their aromatherapeutic benefits will leave you feeling like you just left a spa every time you shower. Lavender delivers a fresh, floral scent, while Bergamot leans citrusy. Both essential oils are very calming – the perfect boosters to the relaxing effect of this soap.

The final super ingredient in this bar is Rosemary Powder. Like the other ingredients, Rosemary Powder has anti-inflammatory properties. As you can see, this bar is a life saver for sensitive skin.
