Focus on Ingredients: Always All Natural

People sometimes skeptically ask if our soap is really all-natural and they’re surprised to look at the ingredients to see that it truly is. The base of all of our soap contains just four ingredients: saponified olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, and shea butter. Our bars are scented with essential oils and we never use artificial fragrances, dyes, or palm oil. We’re proud to offer soap that’s made from all-natural ingredients.

We stand firmly in our belief that simple is better and we make products for people who care about what they put on and in their bodies. Wouldn’t you rather use these natural ingredients (ingredients you recognize whose names you can pronounce) rather than the harsh chemicals and fragrances used in most commercial bar soaps and body washes?

You might be saying, “Yeah, but, what the hell does saponified mean?” Good question.

Saponification is the process where the fats of the oils react with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide (lye) to produce soap. This is a chemical process that takes 24-48 hours to complete.

Another question we’re sometimes asked is if we offer lye-free soap. The truth is that all soap is made with lye -- without it, you don’t have soap. Rest easy though, no lye remains in the finished bar of soap.

In addition, curing soap allows for water to evaporate from it, which gives you a hard bar that produces a nice lather and will last a long time. We cure our bars for 4-6 weeks to be sure that by the time it reaches your hands, you’re holding the best bar possible.

With any bar soap, to make it last, be sure to keep it dry after use. Our soap dishes, made by William, drain the water away from the bar, keeping your soap nice and dry between uses.
